Gaston Mercier introduced the sport of endurance riding to France in the early 1980s. While competing,
he was disappointed with commercially available saddles for long distance riding.
So Mercier designed his own saddle, using his expertise as a third generation leather craftsman and his
experience as an accomplished competitive endurance rider. Since then he has refined and improved his design with feedback
from champion riders from all over Europe.

Today, the Gaston Mercier saddle is used by 2 out of the 3 current European endurance champions, and is quickly
becoming the preferred choice of mainstream riders for trail riding, limited distance riding, flat work, and dressage.
As the exclusive North American distributor, Hi-Tack is owned and operated by horse trainers and riders who compete
and teach in various equine disciplines.
